autumn's retreat

i.

winter divides
sleep-chatter
bird-scurry
rousting
red berries
to fatten
for spring.

ii.

branches blacken,
lay stark against
crystals and silver
linings against
green blades.

iii.

half a ghost moon
filters white
and sings to her
cooling love.

iv.

butter-cream sky
brightens early dawn.
the smell of snow
is in the air.
