As frost bites,
brown leaf dangles,
trembles in November breath
afraid to let go,
though
others have.
Ground slowly rises,
meets her
as she feels
the float.
Body brittles,
chills near mother's base
until breeze
lifts her
into unexpected flight.
Freedom's glory
lives within this
single soaring
moment -
whirl
twirl
swirl
until she lands again,
touches earth
and understands her worth.
